    Dr Susan Goff

    Born in New Zealand, she is a social ecologist working in water management policy in Australia. She was President of the Action Learning Action Research Association (ALARA) between 2006 and 2010.

    Professor Karen McArdle

    She has a particular interest in research methodology and the link to values which she discussed in her latest text, ‘Freedom Research in Education; Becoming an autonomous researcher.’

    Dr Lonnie Rowell

    A retired professor of counseling and President of Social Publishers’ Foundation, a web-based platform established to disseminate practitioner research globally and to support novice practitioner researchers.

The CARN-ALARA 2019 Conference "Imagine Tomorrow: Practitioner Learning for the Future" will be held in Hotel President, Split (Croatia) from 17 to 19 October 2019.

  • Dr. Lonnie Rowell, Dr. Joe Shosh, and Dr. Mary McAteer will lead the pre-conference workshop "Action Research in a Time of Global Crisis". This workshop will be held on Thursday, 17 October 2019.

Airport shuttle bus drops you off in the port, then a five minute taxi ride will take you to this conveniently situated hotel not too far away from the old town, promenade and the port. Hotel President Split is situated in the very centre of the town of Split, at the foothills of the famous Marjan hill, where one can feel the pureness and breathe the freshness of the air in the morning, and be lulled to sleep by the fragrances from the sea, at night.

  • ELECTRICAL PLUGS 220 volts/50Hz. Plugs are 2-pronged and rounded, bring an adapter for your phone, tablet, laptop, etc. Mainland Europe’s plugs are mostly the same except for the UK's which are 3-pronged and flat.
  • Free Wi-Fi will be available to all at the conference venues (no password required).
  • It is safe to drink tap water at the hotel.
  • Local currency is Kuna (HRK). Most shops, restaurants and hotels accept credit cards. Visa and MasterCard are the most widely accepted cards. Most banks have ATMs where you can access your debit or credit account.  
  • The exchange rate is available at the website of Croatian National Bank.
