The Collaborative Action Research Network (CARN)

The Collaborative Action Research Network has been a vibrant international community of action researchers for more than 40 years. It supports action research projects - personal, local, national and international – via its network, its events and its publications. Its journal, Educational Action Research is a key resource in the field.

CARN was founded in 1976 in order to continue the development work of the Ford Teaching Project in UK primary and secondary schools. Since that time it has grown to become an international network drawing its members from educational, health, social care, commercial, and public services settings.

CARN's annual conference is regarded as an opportunity for both experienced and new researchers to come together, debate, share and collaborate with others to find further understandings, develop practices and consider outcomes of their action research. Our conferences take place in non-judgemental, critical spaces, where mutual respect and regard for others is highly valued. The last CARN conference Voicing and Valuing: Daring and Doing was hosted by the Faculty of Education, Edge Hill University UK.
